Gospetunes Devotional (Date: 1st January, 2019)
THEME: A fresh Life
PASSAGE: John 3:1-8
Let the whole creation rejoice and offer jubilant praises to God Almighty forth birth of another New Year of our Lord, 2019. As Christians, we have great hope for the year because we are not ordinary. We are a peculiar people and God’s royal priesthood! It is a year of great exception in Nigeria as we look forward for a new government. It is a year of fresh life in Christ Jesus. It is the Lord’s Year. Throughout 2019, we shall stand strong and steadfast and make good progress in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
A fresh life requires a fresh beginning and it must start at a point. Every journey starts at a point. So is the journey of Eternal Life. Here again, as we read in our passage today, the truth which Jesus Christ unequivocally declared to Nicodemus, stands firm before you and I, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, “Unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”‘ As the Lord Jesus explained, the new birth or being born anew is not to be born a second time from our mother’s womb. Rather, it is entirely a spiritual birth and living by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit testifies of and reveals Jesus Christ and convicts us of sin, God’s Judgment and righteousness (John 16:7-11). The combination of conviction of the Holy Spirit, faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and confession of the mouth bring about the spiritual birth (Romance 10:8-10).
The result of Spiritual birth is a stainless relationship with God, ‘… to all who received Him (Jesus), to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born neither of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God’ (John 1:12-13 NIV). Hence, as you begin this New Year, determine to live a fresh life, one that is devoid of sin, and you will see the Lord’s goodness will be your portion throughout the year. Try and see.
