Gospetunes Devotional (Date: 3rd January, 2019)
THEME: Go With God 2
PASSAGE: Psalm 37:1-9
By nature, God created human beings with abilities and power to make things happen – ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over …’ Genesis 1:28 NKJV. So we are not dummies and robots to be remote-controlled. God has given us brain to think and strength to work. We also have the ability to sleep -rest, and wake up -to be active. Hence, you do note require God to raise your legs for you to walk nor to raise your hands to work. Does it mean that we do not need God anymore? No!
As Nicodemus acknowledged in our passage (John 3:1-8) on Tuesday, Jesus Christ manifested Divine Authority by His deeds, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him” (John 3:2 NKJV). Though Jesus is One with God the Father and also God in Human Flesh, He acknowledge Him and did nothing of His own.
It is, therefore, an act of worship to commit our ways to God and ask Him to GO WITH US. Though God has provided us with everything we need to become great and prosper, it is an act of worship to acknowledge Him and do all things to His glory. God has the power to pull the string at any time if we think that we have so many powers by ourselves. Remember how the Lord pulled down the Tower of Babel, the first skyscraper. (Genesis 11:1-9).
And in our world, we have seen nations, men and women rise and fall, at God’s stroke. It was God who brought King Nebuchadnezzer low from his throne and made him ate grasses like animals for seven years. He was also the One who devoured King Herod with maggots in Acts 12:18-24 for misappropriation of His glory.
We should therefore let God be our guide as we embark on our businesses, travels and acadmics in this New Year and be sure, ‘your righteousness will shine like the dawn and justice of your cause like the noonday sun.’
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 37:5-6 ‘Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noondays sun’.
PRAYER: O Eternal God, I commit all my life and ways to you for guidance in Christ’s name. Amen.
